During 2015, we saw an increasing number of reports of anti-Muslim graffiti which have been posted on street corners through to bus stops and advertisement hoardings. The language of bigotry may well be changing, but the impacts of it can be significant, given the anger that it generates which can become counter-productive for community relations.

We received this report in today, showing graffiti that has been drawn within a toilet in busy Doncaster station.

To add further insult, the terms, “filthy Muslim pigs” with references to toilet paper as pages of the Holy Qur’an are made.

We have informed relevant officials at Doncaster station to remove this graffiti.

This anti-Muslim graffiti was reported into us by a woman who happened to walk past the highly offensive material in Peckham in the London Borough of Southwark. The material was present on Peckham High Street and slightly off the side of a store which meant that it was visible to shoppers as they walked past it.

Her actions involved reporting the anti-Muslim graffiti into us and into Southwark Council. As a woman who is not a Muslim, it highlights the simple fact that many people genuinely detest hatred, intolerance and threats against communities and her example is one that should make us proud of our fellow citizens.

So many non-Muslim fellow citizens have stepped forward and have assisted in gathering information on far right groups and some have become the most ardent campaigners against anti-Muslim hatred.  We must not forget this fact and that whilst things may seem depressing at times, there are many, many good people who genuinely care out there.

We value the unique nature of what we believe is inherently British. That is, to stand up against those who seek to divide and to stand together against those who target communities. There is much good in this island of ours and we should celebrate this.

In Burnt Oak the following pictures were sent to us highlighting the hate and prejudice that one or many people may have against Muslims. The perpetrators decided to scrawl obscenities against Muslims on the bus stand and on the post showing bus times. The shelter involved is the Sefton Avenue bus stop with buses heading in the direction of Burnt Oak.

Just a few days ago, the Swindon Advertiser highlighted shocking anti-Muslim graffiti that had been scrawled on an underpass with Swastika symbols and with the graffiti large and tagged onto the pavement. The anti-Muslim slogans attacked the town’s Muslims and was meant to generate fear and promote hatred. The subway runs underneath the A4311 between Gorse Hill and Kembrey Park. These pictures from the Advertiser are shocking as to the confidence that one or more individuals have in promoting their hate and intolerance.
