Presumptive U.S. Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said he hopes to be able to work with British Prime Minister David Cameron in spite of Cameron calling the Republican candidate ‘stupid, divisive and wrong’ on his stance on Muslims.

“It looks like we’re not going to have a very good relationship. Who knows! I hope to have a good relationship with him but it sounds like he’s not willing to address the problem either,” Trump said in an interview with Piers Morgan, recorded on Friday (May 13) and due to be aired in full on ITV on Monday (May 16).

Earlier this month, Cameron said he would not apologize to Trump after he became the Republican party’s presumptive presidential candidate for calling his proposed ban on Muslims entering the United States stupid and wrong.

Cameron made the comment about Trump after the reality TV star and real estate developer vowed last December to ban all Muslims from entering the United States if he succeeded in his bid to become the next U.S. president.

“Well, number one I’m not stupid, Okay. I can tell you that, right now – just the opposite. Number two, in terms of divisive: I don’t think I’m a divisive person. I’m a unifier, unlike our president now, I’m a unifier,” he added.

PM Cameron says Trump policy on Muslims is wrong, will not apologise

British Prime Minister David Cameron said on Thursday he would not apologise to Donald Trump after he became the Republican party’s presumptive presidential candidate for calling his proposed ban on Muslims entering the United States stupid and wrong.

Cameron made the comment about Trump after the reality TV star and real estate developer vowed last December to ban all Muslims from entering the United States if he succeeded in his bid to become the next U.S. president.

“I won’t change that view and I don’t change that view and I’m very clear that the policy idea that was put forward was wrong, is wrong and will remain wrong, so I’m very clear about that,” Cameron told reporters when asked if he would now apologise.

However, Cameron did pay tribute to Trump for effectively clinching his party’s nomination this week after the departure of his two remaining rivals Ted Cruz and John Kasich.

“Knowing the gruelling nature of the primaries and what you have to go through, anyone who makes it through that extraordinary contest to lead their party into a general election deserves our respect,” he said.

Prime Minister David Cameron will not apologise for calling Donald Trump’s proposed ban on Muslims entering the United States wrong, according to Reuters.

Trump made the policy pledge following a mass shooting in San Bernadino last December.

The Prime Minister’s official spokeswoman had distanced Cameron from the policy as other politicians condemned Trump.

At a press conference with Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, Cameron stated that “What I said about Muslims, I won’t change that view, I’m very clear that the policy idea that was put forward was wrong, is wrong and will remain wrong.”

Donald Trump remains unrepentant in his position. And recycled the claim that Muslims are ‘destroying’ Europe.

This is a letter received from the Office of the Prime Minister in response to our briefing on anti-Muslim hate which we sent through. The letter is a timely reminder of what binds us all in the United Kingdom.

“I am writing on behalf of the Prime Minister to thank you for your recent letter, regarding Islamophobia.

Freedom of speech and freedom of worship are important and hard-fought British liberties. People are free to practise any religion or non, wear whatever clothes they choose, set up and send their children to faith schools, build churches, temples and mosques and worship freely.

What makes this possible is the inclusive idea that everybody living in our country is equal and free to lead their lives as they see fit. But we have to respect other people’s right to do so too. That’s why we are confronting and challenging extremism in all its forms, tacking the violence and hatred that seeks to create divisions.

This, of course, must include tackling anti-Muslim hatred. As such, Government Ministers meet police chiefs to ensure they are supporting Imams and mosques. We also supported the establishment of MAMA – supporting your work to measure anti-Muslim attacks.

Conservatives will require the police to record anti-Muslim crimes as well as anti-Semitic crimes. We also exclude people from Britain whose presence would not be conducive to the common good. For example, in June 2013, the Home Secretary prevented Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer – the founders of an anti-Muslim hate campaign – from coming to speak at an EDL rally in Woolwich.

So thank you for your continued work in this issue. In Britain we have a free society, diverse communities and pluralistic values. Conservatives will always champion what unites our country across class, colour, creed, and will stand up and support British values.
