Leadership to Protect Life: Activating the Diaspora Community of Pakistani Heritage

This is our third session as part of the Connecting Communities project. Previous sessions can be found here.

We are honoured to have the Bishop of Bolton lead the discussions under the theme of ‘Faith Leadership to Protect Life.’ The Connecting Communities project is based on the diaspora community of Pakistani heritage promoting the need for equality and human rights in Pakistan. We understand that the million strong diaspora community in the United Kingdom can be an active change and a real force for good both in the United Kingdom and in Pakistan. Their voices can help to re-enforce, whether to civil society organisations or to Government bodies in Pakistan, the need for minority faiths and groups to be protected. This is essential for a safe, pluralistic and vibrant Pakistan in the future. Pakistan’s history was built on the freedom to worship and the freedom for such groups to live their lives in peace from persecution, driven by a desire within the founder of Pakistan – Mohammed Ali Jinnah. Qaid-e-Azam, (the founder of Pakistan), was driven by his strong Islamic beliefs. Central to this, was the right to life.
