The Muslims who saved Jewish people from the Holocaust

Righteous Muslims. Muslims who saved Jews in the Holocaust by Faith Matters and the Board of Deputies of British Jews

It’s often said that the study of the past can help to illuminate our present, and that’s certainly the case in relation to a recent Holocaust exhibition held at the Board of Deputies of British Jews.

The collaborative work between the Board and Faith Matters, a not for profit inter-faith organisation, aims to celebrate the role Muslims played in saving the lives of Jewish people during the Holocaust.

Rabbi Natan Levy, Interfaith and Social Action Consultant to Board of Deputies:

“There were Jewish families, Jewish individuals, survivors from the Holocaust, and when Yad Vashem said come to us with your stories of the righteous amongst the nations; some survivors said you’ve missed a tale of people in Albania, people in Tunisia, people in Turkey, people in Greece, who saved our lives, and the lives of our family.”

Fiyaz Mughal, Founder and Director of Faith Matters:

“And I guess the Righteous Muslims that have been honoured by Yad Vashem have been an inspiration to us to try and produce the Righteous Muslims Booklet, and the exhibition that is here at the Board of Deputies. I think people can do further work around this area. There’s a lot of missing information around this area, and I think, and i hope, we hope it inspires young people, and inspires researchers to look that this area, and to try and get more examples of incidences and cases in the Second World War that are out there.”
